East Coast Island Wedding FT 35mm Film : Maine Wedding Photographer

There are weddings—and then there are experiences that feel like they’ve been lifted from the pages of a novel. As a Maine wedding photographer, days like these are what I live for. Jeannine and Brody’s intimate celebration on a small island off the coast of Portland, Maine was the kind of wedding you never forget. Salt air, seabirds, slow dancing under string lights, and the timeless click of a 35mm camera capturing every moment.

This was one for the books.

An Island Only Accessible by Boat

To reach the island, guests arrived by boat-taxi, wrapped in light shawls and laughter, the sun warming them from the coastal breeze. The island itself felt untouched, with chic yurts, driftwood-lined beaches, and pathways through the wildflowers.

The ceremony took place on the main doc overlooking the Atlantic, with the sound of waves and the distant clang of a buoy bell as their backdrop. As a Maine wedding photographer who’s spent countless days chasing golden light along this coast, I can say without hesitation: there’s nothing quite like the magic of an island wedding here.

Maine Wedding Photography: 35mm Film

While I always shoot digital alongside film, this wedding practically begged for 35mm. There’s something about film that slows everything down—each frame becomes more intentional, more soulful. And for a wedding as timeless and elemental as this one, digital alone just wouldn’t have done it justice.

The soft grain, the sun flares, the way film renders ocean blues and candlelit skin tones — it all brought an emotional depth to the photos that felt exactly right for this day.

Some Favorite Film Moments:

  • The Pre-Ceremony Calm: The island was still and calm before all the guests arrived for the celebrations. I’m so glad I got to capture the island itself for Jeannine and Brody to look back on.
  • Bridesmaids Putting Finishing Touches on The Bride: Just the girls, with lobstermen working in the distance and the film catching every salty glint in their eyes.
  • Dinner With Sunset: Long farm tables, wildflowers in vases, and film capturing the exact hue of the golden-hour light.

A Celebration That Felt Like a Story

Every detail of this wedding felt lived-in and meaningful. No overdone decor, no rigid timeline—just joy, connection, and the kind of wild Maine beauty you can’t stage. It was a reminder of why I do what I do: to tell love stories honestly and artfully, one frame at a time.

If you’re dreaming of an off-the-beaten-path wedding with soul and scenery, don’t overlook Maine’s hidden islands. If you’re looking for a Maine wedding photographer who sees the beauty in the in-between moments and if you’re drawn to the nostalgic magic of film photography — I’d love to document your day the way it feels, not just how it looked.
