The Perfect Dallas Golden Hour Engagement Photographs

As a destination and travel wedding photographer, I had the honor of traveling to Dallas, Texas to capture Sydney & Josh’s engagement photographs last fall. These two share a love for each other that is so deep, and it only made me look forward all that much more to capturing their wedding in the spring.

We met in beautiful Rockledge Park and had the best time as the Texas sun set with perfect golden hues illuminating the sky. The park is a rare gem. It transports you to a beautiful coastline while being within city limits. In the park you can find beach spots with sand and waves, rocky areas that make you feel like you’re cliffside, and grassy spots for foliage. The diversity is truly wonderful. I highly recommend it for an engagement session park in the city if you’re going for a more outdoorsy location!

Below are a few tips I would recommend to anyone preparing for engagement photos in Texas

  1. Consider choosing a location that is special to you and your partner. This can be a place where you had your first date or a park where you like to spend time together. Sydney and Josh used to come to this park when they first started dating, so we knew we had to capture this next season of life for them in that same spot.
  2. I highly recommend scheduling your session during golden hour! Golden hour occurs during the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset. It is generally the best time of day for outdoor photography. The light during this time is soft, warm, and flattering, which can help make your photos look stunning. I recommend asking your photographer for info on this taking your specific date and location into consideration!
  3. You and your partner should coordinate your outfits to create a cohesive look for your photos! Choose colors that complement each other and avoid wearing anything too busy or distracting. I have an outfit inspiration Pinterest board to help you out with this!
  4. If you have any props or meaningful items that you would like to incorporate into your photos, bring them along! This could include things like your favorite book, a picnic basket, or a blanket to sit on.
  5. Relax and have fun! It’s normal to feel nervous in front of the camera but try to relax and have fun during your session. I created a Pinterest board to give you all the portrait session inspiration you need! Let these images give you confidence and reassurance that your photos will look and feel just as magical!
